The BJP-led Tripura government has decided to provide financial aid to buy a smartphone for students pursuing higher education, Education and Law Minister Ratan Lal Nath said on Wednesday.
The minister said that to honor the pre-ballot promise given by the Bharatiya Janata party in the 2018 assembly elections, the council of ministers at its meeting on Tuesday decided to provide 5000 to 14,608 students to buy a smartphone.
"All 14,608 students from 38 government-run higher education institutions taking postgraduate courses in medicine, paramedical, engineering, science, arts, commerce, law, painting and music, and nursing would receive support financial lender to buy a smartphone, "Nath told IANS.
He said the government will introduce a new program "Mukhya Mantri Yuba Jogajog Yojana" (Chief Minister Youth Communication Scheme) to provide financial assistance for the purchase of the smartphone from the year 2020-2021. According to the Minister, to implement the new regime 7.31 crore would be incurred each year by the Treasury.
