Serie A of team training on May 18 set with coordinated protocol: Government
Milan: The Italian government announced on Monday that it will be able to return to team training starting May 18th, if the Serie A club makes adjustments to the medical protocol.
The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) met last week with the Government’s Technical and Scientific Committee (CTS) to discuss details about the return to group training when the country escapes the two-month coronavirus blockade.
Italian sports minister Vincenzo Spadafora and Health Minister Robert Speranza said in a joint statement Monday that the CTS had largely accepted the FIGC protocol for the resumption of group sessions.
A statement by the minister said, “The opinion the government has requested of the Technical Science Committee supports prudence.”
“The CTS’s instructions, which are considered rigorous and binding, will be sent to the federation for the necessary adjustments to the protocol to allow for the safe resumption of team training starting on May 18.”
In Italy, a pandemic killed nearly 31,000 people, but football has been suspended since March 9.
The Italian government has allowed the team to return to individual training sessions at team facilities starting May 4.
However, there are still issues to be decided, such as quarantining the player if the coronavirus test is positive.
Italian football bosses want to return to action on May 16th, following the example of Germany where only positive cases are quarantined.
However, the CTS argues that football should follow the two-week principle of solar radiation for those who come into contact with positive cases.
Between mid-June and August, when FIGC hopes to get back into action, there will still be 13 rounds of football for some teams.
Since returning to training last week, Fiorentina and Sampdoria have published 10 positive tests. In addition, Turin player showed a positive reaction.
Spadafora later stressed that many tests that need to be performed on Serie A footballers are not done “at the expense of the public.”
“If these changes happen, group training could take place from 18 May,” the sports ministry told Italian television.
“Whether the championship can be resumed, we must wait at least a week to see how the epidemic curve evolves before deciding.”
