Researchers report that a new method has made it possible to diagnose early Parkinson’s disease-ScienceDaily

Researchers at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (HU), led by Professor Aviv Mezel, found that changes in cells in Parkinson’s disease could be revealed by adopting a related technique known as quantitative MRI (qMRI). “Without measurements, we don’t know what is normal, what is abnormal brain structure, and what is changing during the course of the disease,” explains Mezer. The new information facilitates early diagnosis of the disease and provides “markers” for monitoring the effectiveness of future medications. “What we have discovered is just the tip of the iceberg,” he continued. This is a technique they extend to investigate ultrastructure changes in other areas of the brain.
