Weather plays a big role in allergy season, but it's not the only thing that makes this time of year tough for people with allergies.

Allergy season is in full swing and we're feeling it across Connecticut.

Natalie Marquez Rivera and her daughter's allergies have been getting more and more active lately.

“My daughter's allergy symptoms have gotten worse and her eyes are red, her eyes are runny, and her nose is runny,” Rivera said.

Roberta Pupecki noticed a change in her allergy symptoms, but they didn't get better.

“Yes, I noticed that it had increased considerably. I went to see a pulmonologist and was prescribed medication, and it really got better,” Pupecki said.

Dr. Andrew Wong with Hartford Healthcare said the mild start to the year has allowed everything to bloom early. In Connecticut, temperatures in January, February, and March were all above normal.

“So if there is a freeze around January, February or March, pollen counts will be delayed until late March or early April,” Wong said.

Pollen season started earlier and lasted about 20 days longer than usual.

However, mild temperatures are not the only factor contributing to increased symptoms.
