Avoid getting sick while on vacation
FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — Spend the Holidays at Home – Whether you're coming to Fresno or leaving Fresno, this week is a time for plenty of celebrations with family and friends.
However, you need to ensure the health of yourself and those around you so that your vacation plans are not disrupted.
“Even if it's a close family member, they're coming into contact with a lot of other people, so they're coming home. Don't assume you don't have anything,” Medical Director of the Institute of Allergy , said Dr. AM Aminian.
Dr. Aminian said close contact, such as hugging and kissing, can transmit the virus.
“Shaking hands and touching your face can also cause problems,” he added.
He says he's seen patients confuse viruses like colds and flu with allergies.
“If you have an allergy, you're not sick; you feel okay, with some nasal congestion. But with a cold or a virus, you feel a dull headache and feel tired,” he explained.
He advises people to be aware of who is showing symptoms, keep their distance and wash their hands to avoid getting sick.
“If you get sick, please keep your distance from others, wear a mask, and rinse your nose,” he said.
Patient Larry Carpenter is taking his own precautions ahead of his family's holiday celebration.
“If you're not feeling well, keep your distance, stay away from others, and don't get caught up in everything like you always do,” Carpenter said.
Another concern during the holidays is food allergies.
If you have an EpiPen, keep it on you at all times and make sure you and others know how to use it in advance of an emergency.
