Increased county virus risk level, OK exceeds 1,000 pandemic deaths

Oklahoma has exceeded 1,000 COVID-19-related deaths. On the same day, Carter County marked another high point in the number of active cases. According to the state’s COVID-19 warning system, Carter County was also one of the high-risk counties.

On Saturday, the Oklahoma Department of Health reported 83,510 confirmed cases of coronavirus, an increase of 990 cases from those reported on Friday. At least 1,004 deaths across the state have been associated with the new coronavirus, after six were recorded on Saturday.

The State Department of Health reported that 69,754 people have recovered from COVID-19 since March. The number of people who were not recorded as dead or recovered increased to 12,752, with more than 12,000 probably active cases recorded in Oklahoma for the sixth consecutive day.

The true number of cases in Oklahoma is probably higher because many have not been tested and studies suggest that people do not get infected and feel sick.

Oklahoma’s COVID-19 alert system assigned risk levels to counties based on newly identified cases and hospital capacity, raising 12 counties to moderate risk levels this week. Carter County also moved from the yellow category to the orange category every Thursday during the pandemic, recording over 60 active cases each time.

In Carter County, at least 75 probably active cases were recorded on Saturday, breaking the record for the second day. In Carter County, 549 people have been recorded with COVID-19 since March 25, after 10 new cases were recorded on Saturday.

The deaths of eight residents of Carter County are associated with COVID-19, with two recorded this month alone.
