State health officials are preparing for a surge in COVID-19 cases after Thanksgiving holidays. Coronavirus cases have skyrocketed in California for several weeks, with a record of 18,350 cases reported on Tuesday. The 7-day average of positive tests increased from 5.3% to 6.5%. Health officials say Black Friday sales, which are usually crowded, give way to increasing viral infections. They fear that a continuous surge in COVID-19 could overwhelm the healthcare system.
