Upstate Medical College for testing Pfizer’s coronavirus vaccine in children
Syracuse, NY-Upstate Community Hospital is recruiting 12 to 15 years to participate in clinical trials of Pfizer’s experiments Corona virus vaccine.
Upstate is one of more than 60 research centers nationwide. Trial begins in July.. Upstate enrolls more than 300 adults between the ages of 18 and 85. We are currently looking for young people to see if the vaccine is safe and effective for their children.
Pfizer said last month that preliminary data was vaccine-safe 95% valid For adults. The FDA will urgently approve the public distribution of the vaccine this week.
Some participants in the study will be vaccinated and others will be vaccinated with placebo. Most clinical research teams do not know which participants will be vaccinated and which will be vaccinated with placebo.
To be eligible for research, children must be healthy and able to make a two-year commitment to research.
Volunteers should provide blood samples up to 2 years after receiving the vaccine / placebo. Individuals can be seen up to 10 times during the 2-year study period. A two-year period of study is important for assessing safety and long-term immune response.
Individuals who have previously been positive for coronavirus are not eligible to participate.
During the first two study visits, participants will receive a study vaccine or placebo injection. Nasal swabs to test for coronavirus are also collected during these times. Blood samples will be taken during subsequent study visits.
For seven days after receiving the placebo / research vaccine, participants will need to complete a daily electronic diary on their smartphones to record specific reactions.
Research visits will take place in the Clinical Research Unit of the Human Performance Institute on the Upstate Campus.
