Jeane Freeman promises PPE to all social care workers who need it
Health Secretary Jean Freeman has committed to making available facilities to protect against coronaviruses to all those who provide social care, including family caregivers and personal assistants.
A local hub was announced to distribute supplies to social care providers who are struggling to get enough personal protective equipment (PPE) tomorrow.
Unpaid or family caregivers and personal assistants directly employed by individuals to provide care may also access the service.
Freeman stressed that during the crisis the global supply chain was under “huge pressure”.
She says: “The Scottish Government appreciates the importance of all who provide social care and wants to ensure access to appropriate PPE.
“When addressing the challenges from the global shortage of PPE, we work with partners to create an improved model that ensures that all social care providers have access to the supply from national NHS stocks. I agreed.
“This was only possible for the common purpose of getting the right PPE to the right people at the right time and ensuring everyone’s safety.
“In the coming weeks, we will collectively monitor how this model works, quickly identify issues and take action while addressing the evolving nature of the pandemic.”
Counselor Stuart Curry, spokesperson for health and social welfare at the Scottish Municipal Council (Kosla), welcomed the announcement.
“Local governments will work with sector-wide partners to develop this model to ensure that people supporting vulnerable people in the community and all parts of the workforce have access to the PPE they need. I try to make sure. ”
