The CDC warns against Salmonella and encourages poultry not to kiss or snuggle up
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a recommendation on Thursday to warn against getting too close to poultry in the backyard because of concerns that chickens may be spreading Salmonella.
In the survey noticeThe CDC said backyard poultry owners should take precautions when handling animals after 163 confirmed Salmonella cases have been reported in 43 states.
“Don’t kiss or snuggle up to backyard poultry, or eat or drink around poultry,” the CDC writes. “This can spread Salmonella Pathogens come out in your mouth and you get sick. “
According to the CDC, no one died in the reported Salmonella cases, and one-third of the recorded cases were children under the age of five.
The CDC states that few people are being tested for bacterial infections that can cause fever, gastric spasm, and diarrhea, which may increase the number of unreported cases.
