But according to Wheeler, temperatures were a few degrees below average for April.

“We’re just a few days away from May and change is coming,” she adds.

“A low pressure system moving in from the south over the weekend will bring milder weather, but it will also bring some rain and fresher winds.”

However, the next few days could still be relatively cold, with temperatures falling to or even below freezing across northern and eastern England, especially on Friday and Saturday nights, according to the Met Office.
