“Time is on our side,” he wrote in an article on Truth Social, a step back from earlier public statements by Trump and officials from both countries that a deal was close to being announced.
Later Sunday, a senior administration official told NBC News: “The Iran deal will not be signed today, but progress has been made toward an agreement.” »
Details of a potential deal are beginning to emerge.
The deal would prevent the Iranians from developing a nuclear weapon, a senior administration official said, and commit them to giving up “nuclear dust” — Trump’s term for enriched uranium — and develop a mechanism to shape negotiations with the Iranians over the next 60 days.

The Secret Service on Saturday shot and killed a person who opened fire on agents at a security checkpoint during a gunfight that briefly locked down the White House, officials said.
A bystander was also shot, the Secret Service said, but it was not clear who fired the bullet that injured that person. Trump, who was at the White House at the time, was not injured.
Six senior law enforcement officials briefed on the case identified the suspect as Nasire Best. Best, 21, had a documented history with local law enforcement, and five top law enforcement officials said he had a history of mental health issues.
He was known to the Secret Service for walking around the White House asking how to access various entry points and was arrested in another incident in July.
This shooting is only the latest act of political violence perpetrated in the presidential orbit in recent weeks.
“Meet the press”
Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., warned in an interview Sunday on “Meet the Press” that the Republican Party would be “very vulnerable” in the midterm elections.
When asked if the Republican Party was beginning to break with President Donald Trump, Massie said Republicans were “worried about their own political mortality.”
“It’s true, you can knock out Republicans in primaries, but Republicans are going to be very vulnerable this fall,” he said.
Massie, who was defeated in a primary last week by Trump-backed Ed Gallrein, described his break with the president over the Iran war and Jeffrey Epstein files as “absolutely worth it.”

Frosty reception: Trump’s envoy to Greenland says he received a warm welcome during his first visit. But the mood on the Arctic island was decidedly frostier, with one of its most prominent lawmakers calling the visit “appalling” and “offensive.” Chemical tank ‘on the brink’ of exploding in California as crews try to avert disaster. Firefighters in Southern California worked through the weekend to cool a tank of chemicals “literally on the verge of exploding” in an effort to avoid a disastrous “worst-case scenario,” local authorities said.
The 7,000-gallon tank containing methyl methacrylate, a toxic chemical used to make resins and plastics, could also trigger an explosion in a nearby 15,000-gallon tank that contains the same substance, Chief Craig Covey, incident commander for the Orange County Fire Authority, told NBC News Saturday.
“We’re talking about probably one of the worst chemical incidents in California history,” he said.
Problems that prompted authorities to evacuate tens of thousands of people from Garden Grove, Calif., and parts of nearby towns include loss of control of the valves and increased heat inside the reservoir, which has already reached the volatile 90 to 100 degrees Fahrenheit range, Covey said.
But officials said Sunday morning that a late-night operation provided firefighters with what they described as encouraging new information that could change their strategy.

Indians online are rallying around the Cockroach Janta Party, a parody political movement that began as an online satire but quickly became a way to express anger over unemployment, corruption and the state of democracy in the country.
The movement, a cheeky riff on the name of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ruling Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party, has flooded social media with memes, fake campaign messages and jokes tinged with public frustration.
“We need to understand that five years ago, no one was ready to speak out against Modi or the government,” said CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke. “Times are changing. »
Founded last month, the movement’s rapid growth stems from comments made by Supreme Court Justice Surya Kant, who compared some young people and critics of institutions to “cockroaches” and “parasites.”

Regional concern over the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo intensified when Uganda confirmed three new cases, while neighboring countries stepped up surveillance measures amid fears of cross-border spread.
Health authorities and humanitarian agencies in East and Southern Africa are strengthening screening at key crossing points and intensifying preparedness planning. Authorities have also expanded community awareness campaigns, urging residents to promptly report their symptoms and follow hygiene guidelines aimed at limiting transmission.
Three Red Cross volunteers died on suspicion of contracting the Ebola virus during a humanitarian mission in Congo in March, the organization said.
Remarkable quote
Don’t think, “I’m isolated, I’m in a liberal state, I’m in a liberal city, I’m in a blue state,” and so on. Hate can reach anywhere.
Hussam Ayloush, CEO of the California chapter of the Center for American-Islamic Relations
While the killing of three people at a San Diego mosque shocked the country, the city is no stranger to hate crimes. In recent years, neo-Nazi leaflets have been scattered across the city, a swastika defaced a college campus and a Jewish fraternity at San Diego State University was vandalized. In 2023, the Islamic Center of San Diego, which housed the mosque, was flooded with hateful leaflets, prompting the imam to hire additional armed security guards for the campus.
In case you missed it, authorities in northern China are investigating a coal mine operator after an explosion killed at least 82 people. The New York Knicks moved within a game of their first NBA Finals appearance since 1999 with a 121-108 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers. Busch died of severe pneumonia that progressed to sepsis, his family said.
