Two arrested in MHRA largest-ever seizure of unlicensed weight-loss drugs

Officers from the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency’s (MHRA) criminal enforcement unit arrested two people after raiding a country estate near Northampton and recovering around 12,000 units of unlicensed weight loss medicine.

In an operation carried out with support from Northamptonshire Police last night (28 May 2026), two 29-year-old male suspects were arrested on suspicion of offenses under the Human Medicines Regulations 2012. The investigation is ongoing.

This site is believed to have been used as a large-scale facility to manufacture, assemble, and distribute unlicensed weight loss drugs and peptide products such as Ritatrutide and Tirzepatide.

Police seized a quantity of packaging material and substances believed to be pharmaceuticals used in the manufacture of illicit products.

Andy Morling, Head of Criminal Enforcement at the MHRA, said:

Last night’s huge success once again demonstrates the MHRA’s unwavering commitment to ensuring there is no hiding place for those who cynically put public health at risk for profit. Drug regulations are not arbitrary and exist to protect people.

That’s why we continue to target traffickers who seek to circumvent these protections, dismantling the infrastructure that supports them and creating a hostile environment for their exploitative and harmful trade. I am confident that dismantling these illicit production facilities will prevent serious public harm in addition to disrupting criminal organizations.

This operation is the latest in a series of successful enforcement actions by the MHRA targeting the illicit supply of weight loss medicines. In recent months, the agency’s criminal enforcement unit has conducted several raids, dismantling criminal networks and removing significant quantities of unlicensed and potentially dangerous products from circulation.

The MHRA is committed to pursuing those who seek to exploit the public demand for these medicines and will continue to use the full range of its powers to protect the public.
