British police responsible for protecting the royal family take action against claims the royal family was sleeping

London police said more than 20 officers responsible for protecting the royal family were placed on restricted duty after being accused of sleeping away at Windsor Castle.

A total of 23 officers from the Royalty and Professional Protection Command have been issued misconduct notices, 21 of whom are on restricted duties, and police said they had launched an urgent investigation last month.

A police spokesman said: “The alleged conduct falls short of the high standards expected of police officers, particularly in frontline protection roles.”

The claims came to light after the Sun newspaper reported that officers had been accused of sleeping on duty while away from their posts in Windsor, one of King Charles’ residences.

Officers in specialized police units are responsible for protecting members of the royal family and protecting the royal family.

The two officers, who were not assigned to restricted duties, will not be posted to the Royal Court while the investigation continues, police said, adding that investigations were also ongoing at other Royal Courts.

Windsor Castle, where the King hosted US President Donald Trump west of London last year, is regularly used for private stays and state events.

Buckingham Palace declined to comment.
