Alabama health officials are urging people not to go to the emergency room for routine problems or COVID-19 testing.
Recent surges in cases and hospitalizations – As of yesterday, 1,694 COVID patients were admitted to Alabama – We are burdening hospitals and staffing. According to ADPH, many hospitalized patients are young, ill, and unvaccinated, resulting in overwhelming emergency rooms.
“Alabama hospitals are urging people to go to the emergency room only for real emergencies, not for COVID-19 testing. Instead, people with mild symptoms or minor injuries are health care providers. You need to call or receive emergency medical care for mild needs, “ADPH said in a statement. “Reserve emergency room use for more serious medical problems such as heart attack and stroke.”
People suspected of having COVID should see a doctor immediately in the following cases:
- Dyspnea
- Persistent pain or pressure in the chest
