COVID cases in Pork County are reduced by nearly 40%, but vaccination is the lowest ever
The number of locally administered vaccines is at a record low as the number of new COVID-19 cases continues to decline across Polk County and Florida.
According to the latest weekly report from the Florida Department of Health, Pork reported 1,455 new COVID infections between September 24th and September 30th. This is a sharp drop of nearly 40% from the first half of the week, marking the lowest level of new transmissions since mid-July.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, more than 125,000 people have been infected with the virus.
While new infections are declining, the number of pork residents seeking COVID vaccine has reached a record low since it became available to all adults in April. Last week, 2,460 shots were distributed to county residents, down about 31% from the previous week. The state estimates that 64% of eligible pork residents over the age of 12 have been vaccinated at least once. This lags behind the state-wide average of 71%.

The county’s weekly positive rate also dropped from 11.4% to 8.6% this week. This is the first time that the weekly positive rate of pork has fallen below the 10% threshold, demonstrating disease control since the week ending July 9.
According to the State Department of Health, 37,772 new COVID cases were reported last week across Florida. The number of cases has decreased for 5 consecutive weeks, down from 56,325 cases a week ago.
Individuals aged 30-39 years were a unique age group with the newest cases of 6,127 new infections, followed by pediatric cases of children under 12 years with 5,764 new cases.
Despite these reductions, the CDC considers Florida to be at high risk of transmitting the virus.
Vaccinations have also continued to decline across the state, with 278,891 vaccinations in the past week, according to the State Department of Health. This is a decrease of about 11% in a week.

The State Department of Health estimates that approximately 71% of Floridians over the age of 12 have received at least one COVID vaccination, the lowest vaccination rate among individuals aged 20-29.
However, the CDC estimates that approximately 66% of the eligible population over the age of 12 is fully vaccinated.
Florida reported 233 new COVID-related deaths across the state between September 24th and 30th, a significant decrease from 355 reported a week ago.

The CDC reports that Pork County alone reported 73 COVID deaths in the past week to October 1. The State Department of Health stopped issuing daily reports in June and does not provide a county-by-county breakdown of deaths.
State reports add a total of 1,719 deaths to Florida’s cumulative total of 55,299 this week. This means that an additional 1,486 COVID-19-related deaths that occurred before September 23 were reported to the state earlier this week.
