Delta Plus COVID variant AY.4.2 found in 8 states
New COVID delta variants have been discovered in eight states as health authorities monitor the spread of highly contagious viruses.
A strain named AY.4.2 has been identified in laboratories in California, Florida, Maryland, Massachusetts, Nevada, North Carolina, Rhode Island, Washington, and the District of Columbia. MassLive.com report. These eight states account for a total of 11 cases.
No cases have been reported in Alabama.
AY.4.2 has also been found in more than 11% of UK delta variant cases. It was first detected in the United States on August 24th.
This variant is believed to spread faster than the current Delta variant, but there is no evidence that it causes more serious illness, and current vaccines are believed to remain effective against it. ..
