After pandemic closures and protests, South Coast Plaza will reopen with precautions in place
After a months-long closure due to the coronavirus pandemic — and a June 1 reopening postponed due to a demonstration over the death of George Floyd — officials with Costa Mesa’s South Coast Plaza have announced the shopping center will reopen Tuesday.
A release issued by representatives Monday said more than 100 boutiques and select department stores would begin reopening Tuesday at 11 a.m., with others following in the coming weeks.
South Coast Plaza will operate under a reduced-hour schedule, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from noon to 7 p.m. on Sundays.
Visitors are asked to reserve Mondays and Saturdays, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., for vulnerable and at-risk shoppers, including seniors and people with underlying health conditions. Facial coverings must be worn at all times.
Other precautions against the spread of the coronavirus — including an air treatment system, 6-foot physical distancing practices and regular cleaning and disinfection of surfaces — will be taken throughout the reopening period.
Carousels, and other amenities, will remain closed until further notice, and hand sanitizer will be provided at all entrances, concierge locations, escalators, elevators and ATMs.
Stroller and wheelchair rentals, valet parking and drinking fountains will not be available for use. Water bottles will be available at concierge desks, according to South Coast Plaza’s website.
