The Pixel update compresses more useful information into the lock screen

Google’s latest feature projection for Pixel phones adds even more features to At a Glance, a tool designed to display important information on the home screen and lock screens. There’s also a new shortcut that provides easier access to Vaccine Cards and a new music remix app created in collaboration with Teenage Engineering. The update will start rolling out today for Pixel 4 and later.

One of the Pixel’s signature features is the At a Glance widget, which provides a quick summary of important information on the home screen and lock screen. With this latest update, it’ll be able to display a video feed of your Nest’s calling doorbell right on your lock screen, so you don’t have to open a notification to see who’s calling. It will also be able to remind you to turn off your phone’s light if it’s left on, and Google adds that it’s working on an update to deliver air quality alerts when you’re in a polluted area. These features join other recently added At a Glance features, such as earthquake alerts and improved battery information for Bluetooth devices.

Vaccine cards stored on Pixel phones are also easier to access, with a new option to add a shortcut to view screenshots of them on the home screen. Vaccine information can already be added to Android devices and accessed via a shortcut where it is supported, but the new feature has to work across any screen-capable vaccine card, which means support should be much broader.

Next, Pocket Operator for Pixel is a new app designed to allow Pixel owners to remix video content by layering sounds and adding visual effects to create rhythms and patterns. It was designed in collaboration with Teenage Engineering and named after the Swedish electronics company’s range of pocket synthesizers. The app can be downloaded from the Play Store here.
