The Ganges is one of the largest rivers on Earth, but it is dying. From the frozen peaks of the Himalayas, where it begins, to the Bay of Bengal, they are slowly being poisoned. The Ganges is praised by India, but it is also the sewer that removes waste from the 450 million people who live in its catchment area. Pollution caused by the fastest growing factories and farms in the world’s largest economies, and from the banks of true Hindu believers, has made its waters toxic.
