Bollywood’s First-Ever Locally Directed Movie, ‘Welcome to Kashmir’ Is About to Release
Srinagar, 02 May: In a revolutionary move, Kashmir director Tariq Bhat is set to release Bollywood movie ‘Welcome to Kashmir’. This film is not only a milestone for Bhat but also for the entire Kashmir film industry as it is the first Bollywood film made by the locals, for the locals and for the rest of the world. .
The theme of the film centers around the pressing issues facing the people of Kashmir including youth drug abuse, women empowerment and the authentic image of the people and the J&K police. The director’s vision of bringing together Kashmiri artists and showing the true side of Kashmir is finally coming to fruition.
The film benefits from an impressive cast, led by the male lead, Ahmad. Shahab and the first wife, Mateena Rajput, are both from Kashmir. The film is mainly shot in the scenic locations of Sopore, Watlab and Wular. Lake, Rampora Rajpora, Gurez Valley and Srinagar.
Additionally, the film will introduce a talented Kashmiri singer and songwriter, Ishfaq Kawa, to Bollywood. The team behind the film is made up of experienced professionals like Umar Adil, who has extensive knowledge of Kashmir, as casting director and Peerzada Tahir as media supervisor.
Production for the film began on March 15, 2022 in Gurez Valley, and it took six months to complete filming. With the trailer releasing on May 6, 2023, the excitement among audiences is palpable.
Director Tariq Bhat believes ‘Welcome to Kashmir’ will break stereotypes and show the positive side of Kashmir, which is not often portrayed in mainstream cinema. By taking a unique approach, the film aims to connect with Kashmiri youth and audiences around the world.
