Coronavirus: 5 New British Hotspots in the Top 10 Towns That May Face Local Blockades

Five new coronavirus hotspots revealed tonight. The British Public Health Service has announced the 10 areas at highest risk of exposure to regional blockades.

Leicester remains top, but Pendle, Herefordshire, O’Abby, Wigston, East Staffordshire and Luton are new additions today.

The 10 towns and cities at the highest risk of local lockdown are, in order of confirmed cases per 100,000: Lester, Pendle, Blackburn/Derwen, Herefordshire, Bradford, Audby and Wigston, Rochdale, Peterborough, East Staffordshire, Luton.

Lester was the first city to enter the area’s blockade after 99.7 confirmed cases per 100,000 confirmed in the week to 13 July.

This saw the city re-enter the blockade from 126.7 cases per 100,000 by July 6.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock revealed the store today, and early education will be allowed to resume in Leicester in the coming weeks.

However, the city remains partially closed and the boundaries are tightened to reduce the affected area. This includes not only the city of Leicester, but the suburbs of Audby and Wigston.

The suburbs are the sixth in the list of British towns and cities most likely to enter local lockdowns, with 31.5 incidents per 100,000 by July 13.

In Herefordshire, there was a worrying surge, with 3.1 cases per 100,000 to 43.2 cases per 100,000 in the week to 13 July.

Lancashire, Pennsylvania has the second highest chance of entering a local lockdown, with 65.6 cases per 100,000.

East Lancashire authorities have a special Coronavirus Pendle prevention plan to stop case spikes and prevent local lockdown.

Pendle residents have been urged to prevent the spread of Covid-19 by introducing a new preventive program following the crisis negotiations earlier today.

The four-point plan includes liaison between the council, pendle business, and community leaders to prevent the continued increase in Codi-19 cases.

The new figures show that Pendle has the second highest infection rate in the country after Leicester.

On July 14, Blackburn and Derwen’s Health Boss introduced rigorous new measures to “avoid local lockdowns.”

Blackburn and Derwen had 48.3 new cases per 100,000 in the week leading up to July 13.

Bradford was 48.3, Audby and Wigston 31.5, Rochdale 30.0, Peterborough 29.3, East Staffordshire 28.7, Luton 27.6.

The numbers are extracted from the latest updates from Public Health England released today.

Public Health England’s list includes 315 towns and cities.

They show that zero cases were seen in 23 places during the week until 13 July.

These include Great Yarmouth in Norfolk, Tewkesbury in Gloucestershire and Barrow-in-Furness in Cumbria.

Concerns were raised that local blockade could be introduced within a few weeks if the number of confirmed cases continues to grow.

Mass tests begin over the weekend and numbers show that Blackburn and Derwen have 41 new cases per 29.5-100,000.

Over the past week, 79 additional cases have been recorded in the district. Including the 11 cases in the last 24 hours, the total is 1,085 cases.

The ward’s positive rate is also high, currently 7%. This is the rate of confirmed cases per 100,000 as a percentage of all people taking the test. The national average is 2-5%.

Following the surge, more stringent rules were introduced to combat what local government professor of public health professor Dominique Harrison called what he called the “rising wave” of Covid-19 infections.

It will be implemented for one month before any special measures are considered.

This includes limiting visitors to 2 people from different households and wearing cloth face covers in all enclosed public spaces such as shops, workplaces and libraries. Do not hug or squeeze outside your immediate home.

Professor Harrison told the Department of Local Democracy:

“Our rise in rates is largely driven by clustering of households where one person is infected and then the entire household of four or five members is also infected.

“We have established a Covid-19 prevention zone throughout the region.

This includes various additional measures and interventions to reduce the infection of the communities we are looking at.

This includes some universal measures that affect everyone and some targeted measures that address specific risks.

“If interest rates continue to rise, we’ll consider reversing the nationwide debarment measures at Blackburn one by one with Derwen until the current upward trend reverses,” he said.

“These latest numbers are early and timely warnings about what you need to be alert to.”

Some non-critical retail stores are allowed to reopen in Leicester on July 24th, but the pub must remain closed.

Although Leicester’s school has already disbanded for the summer, early services and nurseries are allowed to resume.

And there is a “local power of interest” to shut down retailing when needed.

Travel will continue to be restricted and groups of 6 or more will not continue to be permitted.

In a statement, Hancock said the city’s commons virus incidence was “well above the national and surrounding averages.”
