The resurgence of Dickinson Park tennis courts means that everyone shares in Treadwell Park

The work done on the tennis courts at Dickinson Park this week had a wave effect on the tennis courts at Treadwell Park.
Since Dickinson’s five courts were closed due to a new coating, local tennis enthusiasts had to share the four available courts at Treadwell Park. Fortunately, the overlap is short-lived.
A team from Classic Turf Company LLC arrived in Dickinson Park on Thursday, July 23 to begin the one-week project on the 10-year-old playing surfaces. The preparatory work was done on Thursdays and Fridays, and then the painting and repainting of the courts was done this week.
The Woodbury-based company installed the concrete runways after tension in 2010. The courts would be relocated last fall, Parks & Rec Deputy Parks Director Carl Samuelson said.
With the weather and other delays, we had to wait until spring, when COVID had arrived this spring, Samuelson said on July 29. Now we have been able to get them here, but they are right on schedule.
The re-surfacing cost was $ 45,000, according to Samuelson. That fee includes the cost of resurfacing a basketball court in Dickinson. That court will be in the fall, he said.
Meanwhile, this session of Newtown Parks & Recreation Summer Tennis Camp, which takes place in Dickinson Park, has been moved around the city to Treadwell Park.
For the fifth of Fairfield County Tennis’s seven scheduled sessions, campers reported to Philo Curtis Road for the four-day event.
Students aged 4-15 can enroll in the camps, two remaining sessions offered Monday through Thursday, with a rainy day on Friday if required.
Non-campers could use the Treadwell Park Courts before each morning session started at 9:30 AM and then had to wait until after every 1:00 PM camp session to compete in front of the courts.
