John Stamos plays tech CEO in Zeem Media mockumentary

MARION, Iowa: Zeam Media, a streaming service focused on live, hyper-local and original content, has brought on board a surprising candidate as its chief innovation officer: actor John Stamos.

The appointment was announced via a mockumentary called “Going Full Jack.” In the eight-minute film, Stamos acts alongside Zim Media CEO Jack Perry in preparation for his role in an upcoming commercial, but seems a little too enthusiastic about the role.

Ziem cast Stamos in the role to evoke nostalgia for a time when people watched the same local news and TV shows at the same time every night — Perry himself would skip school to watch “General Hospital,” the soap opera in which Stamos starred, in the 1980s, says Sandy Trombert, Ziem's ​​chief marketing officer.

In this era when fewer people are watching TV, Zeam is trying to recreate that experience.

Trombert said creative staff on his team discussed having Stamos play Perry in an ad, and the idea eventually evolved into a mockumentary, which was filmed at his Los Angeles mansion.

They thought it would be funny if “John went full method acting to play Jack, and Jack was a Steve Jobs-like, detached CEO and technologist,” Trombert said.

At eight minutes, it's longer than most commercials, and Trombert said the marketing team considered shortening it but decided it would work well on a Zeam channel dedicated to Stamos' content.

The mockumentary will air on Zeam and its YouTube channel. The company is also sharing short clips of the video on social media, both its own and Stamos' accounts, local TV stations and digital platforms like YouTube and Roku.

This isn't Stamos' first time working with Ziem – he appeared in a 90-second Super Bowl ad announcing the company's launch in February – and in addition to being a brand ambassador, he will also advise Ziem on content partnerships as its chief innovation officer.

Ziem will open a studio in New York City's Times Square and will broadcast live shows and video podcasts to a wide local audience.
