A bride is upset because one of her bridesmaids wants to make alterations to the dress she chose for the wedding party.
The 26-year-old bride shared a job on the popular Reddit Am I the A——? Forum that she loved the aesthetic of the Regency era and especially empire-waist dresses like those seen in the TV series The Bridgerton Chronicle or the movie Pride and Prejudice and wanted her bridesmaids to wear dresses of the same style.
The bride said several of her bridesmaids loved the idea, but one got angry with her for insisting they wear empire-waist dresses because she argued the type of dress didn't flatter her.

She claims the dress doesn't fit her well because of her body proportions, the bride said, adding that the bridesmaid told her that because of her high waist and large chest, the empire-waist dress made her waist appear much larger than it actually is.
She told me that these dresses made her look fat and triggered complexes, explained the bride.
She shared that the bridesmaid asked if she could have her dress altered to define her figure, however, the bride told her that all the bridesmaids had to wear the same dress and she didn't want her to stand out.

She said I was selfish and disregarding other people's body types. I said she was being extremely pretentious, that it was my wedding and I shouldn't have to cater to her insecurities, the bride wrote before asking for others' opinions.

The post prompted several responses from people who both agreed and disagreed with the bride's perspective. One person pointed out that while the bride has the right to choose the bridesmaids' dresses, imposing your aesthetic at the expense of the comfort of someone who is supposed to be your friend is not kind.
Another commenter also noted that they were undecided about the situation. On the one hand, wearing bridesmaid dresses that we find ugly and unflattering is a time-honored tradition, he noted, adding, “But it's hard to say without more information about who is paying for the dress and what alterations they want.” The commenter noted that the bride should at least allow the bridesmaid to make alterations if she is paying for the dress.
