New increase in French virus cases | Guardian News
France reversed the trend seen since mid-April and reported the first significant increase in the number of people hospitalized for coronavirus since the end of the country’s blockade.
Ministry of Health officials said the number of hospitalized COVID-19 patients increased from 34 to 5,045 compared to Friday.
This was the first significant increase since it began to steadily decline from the April 14 high of 32,292.
The number of people receiving intensive care also increased, increasing by 13 from Friday to 396.
The ministry also reported that the number of confirmed coronavirus infections increased by 4,854 over the past three days to 202,775, adding to the signs that the virus is spreading more rapidly.
After setting a new post-blockade high of 2288, there were 2184 new infections on Saturday, 1885 Sunday and 785 new Mondays, the ministry said in a separate statement.
The ministry also said the cumulative number of deaths from the virus had risen to 30,340, an increase of 16 from Friday, when 12 deaths were reported.
