NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday held talks with his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu amid IsraelIran's incessant air action against Iranian-backed forces Hezbollah in Lebanon.
Sharing his conversation with Israel's Netanyahu, PM Modi said “terrorism has no place in our world.”
“I spoke to Prime Minister Netanyahu about recent developments in Western Asia. Terrorism has no place in our world. It is crucial to prevent regional escalation and ensure the safe release of all hostages. India is committed to supporting efforts to rapidly restore peace and stability,” PM Modi wrote on X.
Prime Minister Modi has repeatedly spoken to Netanyahu and expressed concern over the deteriorating security situation in the Middle East since the October 7 attack last year that saw a Palestinian militant group backed by Iran Hamas entering the southern territory of Israel and killing hundreds of Israelis, in addition to injuring thousands and kidnapping more than 250 people to hold them hostage for future negotiations.
This conversation comes at a time when the situation in West Asia has reached an all-time low in recent years with the assassination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.
Netanyahu called Nasrallah's death a “death blow” against the “main engine of Iran“The axis of evil,” referring to the network of Iranian-backed militias spread across the Middle East.
For Israel, Nasrallah's death is considered a defining moment. Hezbollah, with its vast missile arsenal and deep ties to Iran, has long been one of the most significant threats facing Israel.
For decades, the group's military power and deep roots in the Lebanese political system made it a formidable adversary.
Nasrallah's death now leaves a power vacuum within Hezbollah and the broader network of Iranian-backed militias in the region. From Gaza's Hamas to Yemen's Houthis, these groups have relied on Hezbollah's military expertise and leadership in their resistance against Israel and other regional powers.
