Measles in New Jersey: Concerns over potential outbreak after confirmed cases
ELIZABETH, N.J. (WABC) — There are concerns about the possibility of a measles outbreak after a measles case was confirmed in New Jersey.
This patient may have infected people in four separate communities.
Those locations included Elizabeth, where the individual took part in a three-day long dockers' strike last week.

Location: International Longshoreman Association Strike, Elizabeth Chassis Depot, 1510 S. Bay Avenue, Elizabeth, NJ 07201, and the area near the “Welcome to Elizabeth Terminal.” date Date and time: October 1st to 3rd, 2024, all day
Location: Atlantic Health Immediate Care, 479 Route 520, Suite A103, Marlboro, NJ 07746; Date Date and time: October 6, 2024, 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Location: Jersey Shore University Medical Center – Emergency Department, 1945 NJ-33, Neptune City, NJ 07753; Date Date and time: October 7, 2024 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Anyone who may have been exposed may have a germination period until October 29th.
Symptoms of measles include high fever, cough, runny nose, watery eyes, and rash, which usually appear 3 to 5 days after symptoms begin. The rash usually begins as flat red spots that appear on the hairline of the face and spreads downward to the neck, torso, arms, legs, and feet. Measles can cause serious complications such as pneumonia and encephalitis (swelling of the brain), which can lead to miscarriage in pregnant women, premature birth, and low birth weight babies.
