Imran’s plea: Supreme Court must follow policy of fixing cases

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court is set to settle a contempt case over the alleged non-implementation of a court order allowing meetings with PTI founder Imran Khan under its new case fixing policy.

A senior court official said the case, linked to the Islamabad High Court’s directive allowing meetings with Khan, would be scheduled as per the usual order of hearings.

Earlier, PTI General Secretary Salman Akram Raja met Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi and demanded that cases involving Imran Khan be heard expeditiously. He later said the chief justice assured him that these issues would be taken up after Eid.

Raja had already filed an appeal in the Supreme Court after the Islamabad High Court dismissed his contempt petition for non-compliance with its order regarding meetings with Khan’s family and lawyers. The case is currently placed lower on the cause list because contempt cases are heard sequentially in accordance with court policy.

The PTI continues to face delays in relief at several legal forums, while lawyers say cases involving civil liberties are not prioritized.

The government maintains that Imran Khan regularly meets with his wife in prison, while political analysts suggest restrictions could be eased depending on the nature of his interactions and statements.
