Some endangered primates, including western lowland gorillas, Sumatran orangutans, and northern cheeked gibbons, are predicted to have a very high risk of being infected with SARS-CoV-2 via the ACE2 receptor. ..

Studies have shown that the direct ancestors of SARS-CoV-2 are likely derived from bat species.
It is still unclear whether the bat directly infected humans with the novel coronavirus or whether it passed through the intermediate host. Nevertheless, this study supports the notion that one or more intermediate hosts were involved.
This data will help researchers identify species that may have acted as wild intermediate hosts and help control future outbreaks of SARS-CoV-2 infections in human and animal populations.
