K-pop star Jaejoong apologizes for the April Fools coronavirus joke
K-pop star Jaejoong faces online music after a dull April prank.
Group member JYJ apologized Wednesday for a blatant gag on Instagram in which he falsely claimed that he had tested positive for the coronavirus, much to the chagrin of his devastated fans. He described the lash as a PSA to raise awareness in an effort to “minimize the victims of coronavirus”.
“I am also personally aware that it was something that should not be done,” wrote the pop sensation in a long term position to his Instagram account, which has almost 2 million followers.
“I wanted to convey this message because I hoped that people would be more aware and therefore that we could minimize the number of people who are suffering from COVID-19,” he added.
Jaejoong confessed only an hour after his first job, reports the New York Times.
With the likely aim of gaining sympathy, Jaejoong, apparently regretted, even wrote about his father’s apparent battle with lung cancer which required frequent hospital visits. “When I saw the medical staff and the patients at the hospital, I felt a little angry and wished that people would think that the virus is not someone else’s problem, but their own problem, “wrote Jaejoong.
The singer ended by expressing his “apologies to the people who suffered because of COVID-19 and to the people who were disturbed in their administrative work”. The pop star also thanked “government agencies and health care professionals working hard because of COVID-19”.
Jaejoong’s initial false statement about the COVID-19, which was eventually suppressed, garnered support from his legions of worshiping fans. “Although it went far enough for April Fools, so many people worried about me in a short period of time,” he wrote in his apology. “Oh and I don’t think of it as an April Fool joke. My family and friends get sick … and die … It’s never !! “
He concluded by saying, “I will accept any punishment I receive from this position. I hope you are all in good health. “
Needless to say, the pop star’s despicable joke didn’t appeal to fans, with a commentator asking: How can you make a prank like this when the situation right now is so bad? Jaejoong even deactivated his account following the backlash of criticism, reports the New York Times.
