Quarantine guidelines updated locally after the CDC changed recommendations

Quarantine guidelines updated locally after the CDC changed recommendations

Local health officials have fine-tuned quarantine orders for residents exposed to the coronavirus on December 4, after the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention updated its guidelines last week.

For the majority of the pandemic, those who were considered in close contact with infected individuals were to remain in quarantine for two weeks or 14 days. That period is thought to coincide with the incubation period of COVID-19, a disease caused by the coronavirus.

Authorities now say that the virus test is negative after day 5 and that close contact can escape quarantine 8 days after exposure unless there are symptoms of the virus. Quarantine cannot be completed within eight days of exposure, officials said.

Quarantines who wish to skip taking tests can terminate quarantine 11 days after exposure, as long as there are no viral symptoms during quarantine.

Of course, residents can quarantine for 14 days. Health officials said waiting an extra few days could maximize the risk of a potential virus infection. In some cases, authorities have stated that individuals are encouraged to comply with a full 14-day quarantine.

Regardless of the day of close contact from the quarantine, COVID-19 symptoms should be self-monitored until the end of the two weeks. You should also follow restrictions aimed at controlling the spread of the coronavirus, such as wearing masks, increasing social distance, avoiding crowds, and adhering to basic hygiene.

In situations where one individual in the household is infected with the virus and the other members are in constant or repeated close contact, quarantine is initiated after the patient is considered to have recovered. For example, a parent caring for a child infected with COVID-19 will officially begin quarantine after the minor’s quarantine period has expired.

Health officials have instructed all persons in the above scenarios to self-isolate and contact their health care provider or public health officer if they show symptoms of COVID-19.

Authorities warned that the disease could persist up to 14 days after exposure, regardless of changes in quarantine procedures.

This move will take place after the CDC has updated its quarantine recommendations. Federal authorities have reduced quarantine to 10 days. That is, they can come out of the quarantine on the 11th day without inspection or in the 7th day (that is, an individual can appear on the 8th day).

CDC officials told reporters that the change was an attempt to reduce the burden of quarantine, which could hurt people financially for a 14-day period and may not be possible for some. ..

“Shortening the quarantine period may help people take this important public health action by reducing the financial difficulties associated with a longer period, especially if they are unable to work during that period. “Dr. Henry Walk told NPR.

Walke is the Incident Manager for the COVID-19 Crisis CDC.

Like local civil servants, CDC experts recommend the entire 14 days as the safest method of quarantine. They also urged exposed people to continue to monitor their symptoms for the entire two weeks.

As of December 7, 151 Lincoln County residents were confirmed to be infected with the coronavirus. Two of them were hospitalized. Overall, there were 845 cases in the county and 9 coronavirus-related deaths.
