“Death sentence without it”: Elderly people in Oregon are wondering when they will be vaccinated
Oregon has no details other than the resolution of the Phase 1a vaccine sequence. However, the upcoming Vaccine Advisory Board will make plans.
Portland, Oregon — It’s up to each state to plan who and when to vaccinate. The federal government and Oregon have placed people in front-line care facilities.
Care facilities, or skilled care facility Oregons, are taking their first shot this week.

“My biggest concern about not getting vaccinated is that I would be sentenced to death without the vaccine,” Salerno said. “I have to get back to work at the age of 83. I believe some other people are there like me.”
It may take some time for older people like Salernos to get vaccinated.
“I think people over the age of 75 should be at least second or third, not next April,” Salerno said. “We will lose a lot of people. Maybe I, maybe my wife.”
so Tuesday’s virtual press conference, KGW asked state leaders if there was a timeline about when those Oregons could get their first shot. Pat Allen, director of the Oregon Department of Health (OHA), responds:
“This may be for a while. People over the age of 75 are not concentrated in the general public. I think we prioritize the elderly and those with underlying illnesses. However, it is impossible to say “whether it will be two months or six months from now” because we can predict weekly until we have some reliable supply. I know it doesn’t satisfy anyone. But that’s the reality of where these numbers are now. “
