The number of people receiving cancer treatment in the NHS has returned to pre-COVID-19 levels, with nearly 350,000 people being treated since the first peak. Survival is the highest ever, but the long-term plan is to detect three-quarters of cancers early, which is easy to treat.

John McGuire, 71, from London, who is receiving chemotherapy for colorectal cancer at Guy’s Hospital, was tested and found to be in the form of a gene, so he was given a low dose.

“There were few or no side effects from the treatment.”
