The Korean peninsula was rocked by four earthquakes in three days

SEOUL, April 29 (Yonhap) – The Korean Peninsula was rocked by four earthquakes with a magnitude of 2.1 or greater in a three-day period this week, the Korean Meteorological Administration (KMA) said Wednesday.

An earthquake measuring 2.4 degrees struck South Korea, Pyongan, north of the capital, Pyongyang, at 3:10 pm. The earthquake occurred 18 kilometers northwest northwest of Songchun County, and its epicenter was at 39.39 degrees north latitude and 126.13 degrees east longitude.

KMA analyzed Songchon earthquake as a natural seismic earthquake.

Earlier this week, South Korea was hit by three small earthquakes in and around the southwest.

A 2.4-magnitude earthquake hit Jomsan Mountain in South Chungcheong Province, 198 km south of Seoul, shortly after Tuesday afternoon, while Mokpo, a coastal port in South Jeolla, 410 km south of the capital, recorded a 2.1-magnitude earthquake shortly before 1 pm . in the same day.

On Monday, a 2.8-magnitude earthquake struck Jiangsu Province, north of Jeolla, 318 km south of Seoul. No human casualties or property damage were reported from the three earthquakes.

During April, eight earthquakes stronger than its magnitude 2 occurred on the peninsula, compared to four in January and February and two in March, according to the KMA.

KMA officials said the four earthquakes occurred around the same time but there was no contact between them.
