Pfizer, Moderna jab shows reduced antibody response to Indian mutants
New Delhi : A preliminary laboratory study of the mRNA vaccine by Pfizer and Moderna showed reduced efficacy against double mutants found in India, the World Health Organization said in a memo. This is behind a multilateral agency that classifies mutant virus strain B.1.617 as a variant of concern.
“Preliminary laboratory studies awaiting peer review suggest a limited reduction in antibody-induced neutralization, but the actual effects may be limited,” he said.

I concluded that it was not easily affected. However, despite high resistance from mutant strains, the majority of sera from infected individuals and all vaccinated individuals were still able to neutralize the mutant, the study said. ..
Other studies cited by WHO, conducted by the University of Cambridge, the National Center for Disease Control, and the CSIR Institute for Genome Integrated Biology, also showed a reduction in the neutralizing activity produced by vaccines against the virus.
The third study, cited by the agency, was conducted by German researchers, with approximately one-third reduction in plasma neutralization activity from Pfizer’s 15 recipients against Indian variants, and convalescent sera. Reported a limited half reduction due to. Severe covid-19.
The three studies will be conducted when the Government of India has agreed to provide a rapid licensing process for vaccines that have already been approved by the US, UK, Japan, European Union, and WHO regulators. Last week, Indian regulators granted Regeneron’s partner Roche an urgent license for antibody cocktails, but the US FDA last month revoked Eli Lilly monoclonal antibody approval due to resistance of mutants to the drug.
