Kannada actor Dwarakish dies at 81, Rajinikanth mourns 'painful' demise of his 'dear friend'

Rajinikanth took to his X handle to mourn the loss of his 'dear friend'. He described the sudden demise of Dwarakish as “painful”.

Veteran Kannada Bungle actor, producer and director Shama Rao Dwarakanath, popularly known as Dwarakish, passed away on Tuesday following a cardiac arrest. He was 81 years old and breathed his last in Bangalore.

Rajinikanth took to his X account (formerly known as Twitter) to mourn the loss of his dear friend. He described the sudden demise of Dwarakish as painful and offered his condolences to the latter's family. The demise of my dear, long-time friend, Dwarakesh, is very painful for me. Early in his acting career, he rose to the rank of a great producer and director. Good memories come to mind. My most sincere condolences to his family. and very dear (sic), we read in his message.

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar also mourned Dwarakish's demise and said the actor brought to life roles as a comedian, hero and supporting actor. Former Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy also said that Dwarakish's service to the Kannada film industry as a producer and director was unforgettable. He was an asset to Kannada cinema because of his versatile talent, acting with great actors like Dr Rajkumar, Dr Vishnuvardhan and Ambareesh, wrote Kumaraswamy.

Born on August 19, 1942, in Hunsur in Mysuru district, Dwarakish was best known for his comic roles. A graduate in mechanical engineering, Dwarakish made his debut in the city of tinsel in 1966 by co-producing a Mamatheya Bandhana under the banner of Thunga Pictures. However, he rose to fame after being widely appreciated as a producer with his film Mayor Muthanna starring Kannada matinee idol Dr. Rajkumar and Bharathi in lead roles.

During his career, Dwarakish has acted in around 100 films and produced and directed around 50 films. He is also the man who introduced famous Hindi singer Kishore Kumar to the Kannada film industry with the song Aadu Aata Aadu.
