Bollywood director Imtiaz Ali's film 'Laila Majnu' to be re-released in Kashmir next month
Srinagar, July 25: Owing to the overwhelming response to the film 'Rockstar', Bollywood's renowned filmmaker Imtiaz Ali and his team are all set to re-release the film 'Laila Majnu' in Kashmir next month. Laila Majnu, which was originally released on September 7, 2018, is set to be re-released on August 2 in Kashmir, the team has announced. Starring Avinash Tiwary and Triptii Dimri in the lead roles, Laila Majnu is a romantic drama.
Khawar Jamsheed, who was the executive producer of the film Laila Majnu, told Greater Kashmir that Imtiaz Ali and his team have decided to re-release the film in Kashmir on August 2 due to the overwhelming response to the film 'Rockstar', starring Ranbir Kapoor and Nargis Fakhri, which is being re-released in theatres in May 2024.
The audience flocked to the cinema halls to watch the film again and relive the magic. “Following the success of Rockstar, Laila Majnu will be re-released in Kashmir,” Khawar said.
He said Bollywood films have started gaining popularity among the Kashmiri audience. After the reopening of cinemas in the Valley, Ranbir Kapoor's 'Rockstar', which was shot in Kashmir, has received immense response.
“Buoyed by the positive response to ‘Rockstar’, ‘Laila Majnu’ is now being reintroduced to the Kashmiri audience. This Imtiaz Ali film has also been shot in the Valley. The film, known for its stunning visuals and heartfelt performances, is likely to resonate with the local audience,” Khawar added. He said most of the artistes, actors and crew involved in the film were locals and many of them had gotten opportunities in Bollywood.
The team, including director Imtiaz Ali, was delighted with the announcement. The film was initially released in September 2018. Presented by Imtiaz Ali, it was directed by Sajid Ali and produced by Ekta Kapoor.
Imtiaz Ali, through his frequent visits to Kashmir with and without films, has connected with the people of Kashmir and has become one of the most popular filmmakers. Recently, the Instagram account of Inox Srinagar announced the re-release of the 2018 film Laila Majnu.
The film, shot in the picturesque locations of Kashmir, will once again release on August 2. The announcement read: #lailamajnu.
