Governor urges Coloradans to wear ‘fun’ masks | Western Colorado
Wear masks and have fun with it.
While not mandatory, Gov. Jared Polis said that wearing any face mask would help slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus and asked the Coloradans to start it whenever they came out.
To help people do this, he urged them to have fun by making smart masks.
“Each mask wearer has the effect of reducing the spread of the virus and reducing this disruption to socializing and the economy,” Polis said at a news conference Friday. “Well, keep it cool. Show everyone what you do. If you do Twitter or TikTok or Facebook, show people what you do to be smart and cool about wearing masks.”
To demonstrate this, Polis applied a homemade mask with the Colorado State logo.
Shortly after the governor’s press conference ended, news emerged that federal officials were making similar recommendations. The Trump administration guidelines, released Friday, encourage people to start wearing face covers when out in public and gamble on more rudimentary covers like t-shirts, a band and non-medical masks.
Like many other healthcare professionals across the country, Polis said science has shown that, even if these masks are not evaluated for medical purposes, they can still help slow the spread of the virus.
He said people who use masks, which should be made of some sort of fabric, at places where grocery stores not only help protect themselves from the potential spread of the disease, but also others.
“That’s what we all have to do now whenever you go grocery shopping or whatever,” he said. “It’s not that what we chose isn’t any of us, but let’s have fun with it and make it cool. Let’s make lemonade from these lemons and try to show everyone that we need our share of smart masks.”
In other matters, the Governor has implicated Coloradance who are trying to apply for unemployment benefits but are having problems with patients.
Currently, the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment is trying to sift through hundreds of thousands of submissions. On Thursday, the department announced that it had seen a historic number of people applying, saying it would take longer to process them.
He said it would get worse but no one would lose benefits due to the delay in applying.
