Woman searches for bride after finding wedding dress on highway
GREENE COUNTY, Iowa (KCCI) – A woman made an unusual discovery last month while driving with her husband.
She spotted a wedding dress lying on the side of the road and now she's trying to find its owner.
The wedding dress was found just north of Rippey, Iowa.
All that gibberish was just hot air, Denise Gannon said.
Something in the grass caught Gannon's attention. It was a wedding dress in a ditch.
Now the dress is hanging on its clothesline.
It's an Alfred Angelo style, and it's a size 18W. It's a very pretty dress, Gannon said.
For a month, she has been trying to reunite the dress with the bride.
I really thought if I put it on Facebook, someone would notice it and want it, but nothing. Nothing, she said.
The dress was found next to a Bliss wedding dress bag, so Gannon called the store.
They don't sell that brand, so they don't think they sold it. They didn't sell the dress, she said.
How the dress ended up in a ditch remains a mystery and Gannon said everyone has their theory.
I don't know if someone was transporting or moving the car and it exploded out of their vehicle, she said.
Some believe the bride has changed her mind.
I think the dress has been worn before, so I don't think she changed her mind, Gannon said.
Others believe it has something to do with the Greenfield tornado, but Gannon said the dates don't add up.
“It wasn't there. I don't think it had anything to do with Greenfield,” she said.
Gannon said if she can't find the owner in the next few weeks, she will donate the dress, but added that looking back on her time as a bride 45 years ago, she feels the person who owns the dress would love nothing more than to have it back.
I hope someone finds it and says, 'Hey, that's my dress,'” she said.
