Jokowi is optimistic about the development of the electric vehicle ecosystem in Indonesia
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.TV – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) reviewed the Periklindo Electric Vehicle Show (PEVS) 2024 electric vehicle exhibition at JIExpo Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, Friday (3/5/2024).
During his visit, President Jokowi assessed that public enthusiasm for electric vehicles was very high.
Thus, the development of an ecosystem for the production of batteries for electric vehicles (electric vehicle/EV) in Indonesia will become more aggressive.
This is in line with the mandate of Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 55 of 2019 regarding the Acceleration of the Battery Electric Vehicle Program for Road Transportation.
“Next month, industrial battery factories will start producing. So we hope that this ecosystem will be built soon, formed soon,” the president said on the sidelines of the PEVS 2024 visit on Friday.

The President added that the production of electric vehicles, such as motorcycles and cars, remains a target for the public.
So far, the capacity of two-wheeled electric vehicles has reached 1.6 million units per year. This number will increase if all electric vehicles are produced in Indonesia.
According to his notes, President Jokowi explained that there are currently 59 factories in Indonesia that produce two-wheeled electric vehicles.
Meanwhile, for electric cars, five factories have been built and one will be added by the end of 2024. Then the production of trucks and buses consists of one factory each.
“Currently, only about 100,000 people are producing in Indonesia, which means there is still a huge opportunity,” Jokowi said.

“We hope that in the future the electric vehicle ecosystem will be built and formed. We really need to protect it, so that there are no obstacles. I'm getting there,” he said. he adds.
Previously, Minister of Investment/Head of the Investment Coordination Board (BKPM) Bahlil Lahadalia revealed that the first battery factory in Indonesia will be the largest in Southeast Asia.
Under the banner of Hyundai LG Indonesia (HLI) Green Power located in Karawang, West Java, the initial phase of the plant's capacity reached 10 Giga Watt (GWh).
Bahlil said the electric car battery ecosystem for the first 10 GW factory would be inaugurated around April 2024 and is currently in production.
