TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – President-elect Prabowo Subianto has been optimistic about achieving 8 percent economic growth, even betting amicably with ministers from neighboring countries that he would succeed. The ambitious goal comes after Joko Widodo or Jokowi, the incumbent, promised a 7 percent growth rate during his 2014 campaign. However, Jokowi's administration has ultimately achieved an average growth rate of about 5 percent per year.
While falling short of the promised 7%, Jokowi's administration points out that Indonesia's performance outpaces that of some regional neighbors. For example, in the third quarter of 2023, the Indonesian economy grew by 5.05%, compared to 3.9% for Malaysia and 2.5% for Thailand.

2. Jokowi summons Religious Affairs Minister Yaqut to the palace
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – President Joko Widodo or Jokowi summoned the Minister of Religious Affairs to the Jakarta Palace on Friday morning, July 19, 2024. Yaqut arrived around 9:12 a.m. Jakarta time (WIB), but left shortly after, at 10:05 a.m. WIB.
