IHC orders facilities for Imran as per prison manual

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has ordered that all facilities, including newspapers, to which PTI founder Imran Khan is entitled as per the jail manual be provided to him.

The court issued these directions to the deputy superintendent of Adiala jail on Thursday. Justice Arbab Tahir asked the prison authorities to arrange meetings with Imran, be it a WhatsApp call or anything else. The court issued the directions following an application filed by Noorin Niazi.

Judge Arbab noted that prison authorities had declared that meetings had been reinstated. PTI chief Shoaib Shaheen asked the court to seek an affidavit stating that no restrictions would be imposed on the meetings. The judge said that according to prison authorities, restrictions had been imposed for security reasons.

The deputy superintendent said the facility of WhatsApp calls was not mentioned in the prison manual. DIG Jails Abdul Rauf and Deputy Public Prosecutor Khalid Mehmood appeared. The jail official said the lawyers and family members met Imran the day before and all facilities were provided to him.
