Sequoia invests in DecaartAI for the creation of engine-free games

Sequoia, a technology investment firm, announced that it is investing heavily in DecaartAI, using a demo called Oasis to showcase new generative AI technologies. In this case, DecartAI presented a fully playable version of Microsoft and Mojangs Minecraft not running on a game engine.

In the demo, the game is not dictated by logic, Decaart says. It is created pixel by pixel in real time using generative AI.

Oasis takes into account the user's keyboard inputs and generates real-time gameplay, including physics, game rules and graphics, Decaart writes in a blog post. You can move, jump, pick up items, break blocks and much more. There is no game engine; just a basic model.

It might be more accurate to say that Oasis is an interactive video that requires different data than what is traditionally called a video game. But this could be an example of how game creation is evolving thanks to AI, as the idea of ​​an engine-less model could give rise to new terms as developers become more familiar with the technology.
