Trump excludes Nikki Haley and Mike Pompeo from administration

US President-elect Donald Trump on Saturday ruled out reappointing two senior officials from his first administration, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley.

Writing on his social network Truth Social, Trump said he would not invite either figure to join his administration amid speculation about who his new team would be.

Pompeo in July outlined a hawkish plan for Ukraine, involving more arms transfers and tough measures against Russia's energy sector, which analysts said was at odds with Trump's campaign statements.

Trump repeatedly boasted that he could end the war in Ukraine in his first 24 hours in office and criticized U.S. aid to kyiv in its fight against Russia.

Haley ran against Trump in the Republican primary this year before supporting him, but she has sometimes given him direct advice, like when she urged him to stop complaining about Democratic candidate Kamala Harris in August.

So far, Trump has made one cabinet appointment, naming his campaign manager Susie Wiles, whom he calls Ice Baby because of her supposedly unflappable temperament, as White House chief of staff.

She is the first woman to be appointed to the crucial role of caretaker of the White House.
