During the meeting with Yunus, Modi raises the safety of the Hindus in Bangladesh, says that the rhetoric of viciation has avoided better

Bangkok:Prime Minister Narendra Modi called Bangladesh to ensure that the authors of atrocities against Hindu and minorities are brought to justice in the country, raising the question of their security and well-being at his first bilateral meeting with chief advisor Muhammad Yunus on Friday.

Modi also urged Yunus and the interim government to avoid any rhetoric that victims the atmosphere between the two countries at the meeting, said Foreign Minister Vikram Misri during a special briefing in Bangkok.

The meeting between the two leaders lasted approximately 45 minutes. A person familiar with the case told Theprint that Prime Minister Modi's objective during the meeting was to raise the issue of minority safety in Bangladesh and to push Yunus to allow the current mechanisms of the two countries to continue to function and ensure the application of border security according to law.

According to Misri, the Prime Minister also underlined the indiat concerns related to the security and safety of minorities in Bangladesh, including the Hindus, and expressed his expectation that the Bangladesh government will ensure their security, including in careful investigating all cases of atrocities committed against them.

On the application of the law of the law and the prevention of illegal border crossings, especially at night, is essential to maintain the security and stability of borders.

Prime Minister Modi also told Yunus that any rhetoric that victims the environment is better avoided and reiterated the support of the India to a democratic, stable, peaceful, progressive and inclusive Bangladesh, said Misri.

Bangladesh raises Hasina's extradition

While Yunus and Modi spoke by phone last year, it was the first time that the two leaders met in person. According to information, Bangladesh previously requested the meeting on the sidelines of the regional summit.

It comes a few days after Yunus finished his first foreign trip, jumping the tradition of visiting India with a trip to China.

There he told Chinese officials at an event that Bangladesh was the only caretaker in the region, saying that northeast of India was landlocked. He also urged Beijing to consider Bangladesh as an extension of the Chinese economy. The problem made snowball in a political controversy, with a number of political leaders of the northeast struck in Yunus.

The links between the two neighboring countries have been launched in the past eight months since Hasinawas has ousted massive anti-government demonstrations and fled to India in August from last year.

After the meeting of the two leaders, Shafiqul Alam, Yunus press secretary, said that the chief advisor had raised Hasina’s extradition to Bangladesh with Modi. For Dhaka, Hasina's continuous stay in New Delhi was a major irritant to the relationship.

In December 2024, India admitted to having received a request for the effect and examined it in accordance with the requirements of the extradition treaty between the two countries. New Delhi's “incendiary” rhetoric was a continuous question for Yunus, who said that the external forces are trying to destabilize Bangladesh.

India has also raised the issue of attack reports against minorities in Bangladesh, especially Hindus. While Dacca initially rejected reports as an exaggeration, the authorities have since confirmed that it was investigating more than 2,000 incidents of crimes against Hindus and other minorities.

During the bilateral meeting, the two leaders also discussed the renewal of the Ganges' water Treaty, which expires in December 2026, as well as the Dispute Display of the Teesta River.
