President Donald Trump said Wednesday that Iran would not get sanctions relief in exchange for giving up its highly enriched uranium. His comments come as the United States and Iran attempt to reach an agreement to end the conflict that has ravaged the Middle East for three months.

“No, no, not at all. No sanctions relief, no,” Trump told PBS News in a brief phone call when asked if the current deal would mean Iran would give up its highly enriched uranium in exchange for sanctions relief.

He added: “They’re going to give up their highly enriched uranium, not for sanctions or relief. No, no, not at all.”

In a weekend phone call with a number of Arab countries, including Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt and others, Trump said it should be mandatory for them to join the Abraham Accords. The accords are a deal negotiated towards the end of his first term that normalized relations between other Arab states and Israel. The United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Morocco and Kazakhstan are the only countries to have signed the agreement since 2020. In the past, Saudi Arabia has said it would not rejoin the deal unless there were commitments to a Palestinian state.
