KP Information Minister condemns restrictions on meetings with Imran Khan

Peshawar – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Information and Public Relations Shafi Jan on Tuesday said preventing lawyers and their family members from meeting Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founding chairman Imran Khan by the federal and Punjab governments is a serious violation of the Constitution, law and democratic values.

Shafi Jan termed the decision condemnable and regrettable, adding that it clearly shows the authorities’ fear of Imran Khan. Shafi Jan further said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi along with members of the provincial assembly had visited Adiala jail to express solidarity with the PTI founder and his sisters. He added that the federal government, in a show of panic, erected barriers in front of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa House in Islamabad and deployed a large contingent of police.

He further said that gross negligence was shown regarding the health of Imran Khan due to political victimization. The lack of adequate and timely medical care harmed Khan’s eyesight. He demanded that Imran and Bushra Bibi be immediately transferred to Al-Shifa Eye Hospital and given unrestricted access to their personal doctors and family members.

Shafi Jan further said that all attempts to isolate Imran Khan have failed because the public continues to strongly support him. He argued that the government, fearing Khan’s popularity, resorted to political revenge, but such tactics cannot diminish the people’s affection and support for him.

He added that the treatment meted out to Imran Khan has been exposed to the world. He said that Imran was kept in solitary confinement for over 200 days and his sister’s last meeting with him was in December 2025. He further said that the ‘incompetent group’ that came to power through ‘Form 47’ had filed false cases against Imran Khan to safeguard their power and had given the worst examples of political victimization. He warned that the days of the current leaders were numbered.

Shafi Jan also said that similar fear-driven tactics of Imran Khan were being employed in the Gilgit-Baltistan elections. However, he added, the public is now fully aware of these strategies and can see them clearly.

Shafi Jan concluded by saying that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf achieved public mandate in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for the third time due to Imran Khan’s vision, public welfare agenda, development initiatives and effective governance. He described Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as the strongest political bastion of PTI, adding that the party’s growing representation in the provincial assembly in successive elections reflects the unwavering confidence of the people.
