Jokowi responds to corruption cases: Minister Nadiem Makarim is a good person
7th President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) responded to the Chromebook laptop corruption criminal case that ensnared Nadiem Makarim. Because the former Minister of Education, Culture and Technology mentioned Jokowi’s name several times.
“Yes, I know that Minister Nadiem Makarim is a good person,” Jokowi said at his residence in Solo, Wednesday (3/6).
Regarding his name mentioned during the trial, Jokowi only responded briefly.
“Yes, it is a legal procedure (Jokowi said in court),” he said.
Jokowi also responded to Nadiem’s defense, who said that several aspects were indeed instructions from President Jokowi.
“Yes, all policies, all programs come from the president,” he concluded.
Previously, the legal advisory team of former Minister of Education and Culture Nadiem Makarim asked the Jakarta Corruption Crimes Court (Tipikor) to acquit their client of all charges brought by the Attorney General (JPU).
Nadiem’s legal team asked the judge to accept and grant the submitted defense note in its entirety.
He believes that it has not been legally and convincingly proven that Nadiem committed a criminal act of corruption in connection with the scheme to purchase Chromebook laptops as charged.
“Acquit the accused Nadiem Anwar Makarim of all charges brought by the Attorney General, or at least release the accused Nadiem Anwar Makarim of all legal charges,” emphasized Nadiem’s lawyer, Dodi S. Abdulkadir, when reading his motion before the panel of judges, Tuesday (2/6).
The lawyer explained that it had not been proven that his client had violated the main or subsidiary charges.
“Stating that it has not been legally and convincingly proven that the accused Nadiem Anwar Makarim committed all the criminal acts alleged against him,” Dodi explained, referring to Article 2 paragraph (1) and Article 3 of Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Corruption Crimes in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) 1 of the Penal Code.
