IHC seeks Adiala jail records in PTI founder’s solitary confinement case

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Islamabad High Court has sought a detailed report, jail records and relevant documents from Adiala Jail in proceedings related to petitions alleging that PTI founder and his wife Bushra Bibi are being held in solitary confinement.

During the hearing, Judge Khadim Hussain Soomro asked the director of Adiala Prison to explain whether the two prisoners had been placed in solitary confinement and, if so, under what legal provisions, under what circumstances and for what duration. The court also asked whether the detention was imposed as a disciplinary sanction.

The court asked the prison authorities to include details of the current conditions of detention of the PTI founder and Bushra Bibi, the facilities provided to them and their response to the allegations of solitary confinement.

The Islamabad High Court said it would decide whether the petitions are admissible after examining the reports. He also said the merits of the case would be examined once the requested records and documents were submitted.

The court ordered the Adiala Prison superintendent to produce the prisoners’ jail records, registry entries and other relevant documents during the next hearing.

The Inspector General of Prisons has also been tasked with ensuring that a senior prison official, with full knowledge of the facts, appears before the court at the next hearing.

The court sent notices to all parties and ordered that the reports be submitted by August 6.
